It is once again time for the annual WSTA board elections.  The following individuals seek to serve the membership of WSTA, as we continue to move science education forward in our state. 

            As members of WSTA, you will be receiving a postcard in the mail with directions for on-line voting.  Members will receive an individual voting identification which will allow you to log on to the WSTA website elections area and cast your votes.


HERE ARE YOUR CANDIDATES:
The President-Elect prepares for and supports the office of the President. The term of the President-Elect is 2 years. The President-Elect then serves as President for 2 years, and finally serves as Past President for one additional year (a 5-year term).

Statement (100 words or less):
My interest in becoming President-Elect for WSTA stems from a dedication to the science teaching community. I offer WSTA members my understanding of the exceptional challenges of k-12 science education as well as my assessment and pedagogical expertise. My background has given me a unique perspective on science instruction as well as the skills to present ideas and facilitate change. My qualifications include a deep understanding of best practices, current educational research and the Washington State Science Standards. Through my collaborative skills and existing relationships with Washington science educators we will continue to strive for science literacy across Washington.



The Executive Secretary serves as the official liaison for WSTA, maintains all official records and facilitates the “daily working” of the Board.

Statement (100 words or less):

Serving the past 6 years as a representative of region 10, has been an honor and a privilege.   I have gained experience and knowledge in this capacity.  I would like to continue being part of WSTA as executive secretary.  I have enjoyed assisting the present executive secretary over the past few years and know that I would not only be honored to serve the association in this capacity, but would enjoy doing so.  I have two passions, one is science education for our students and the other is giving service to others.  As executive secretary, I will work on both.















The Regional Representatives are the chief communicators of WSTA information in their Regions.  They provide/host professional development opportunities, work closely with the other regional representatives, participate in the WSTA conferences, attend board meetings and provide science education leadership within their respective regions.

I am running for our Regional 8 Representative position to become more involved with science education at the local level and with the state.

As WSTA Rep, I have been successful in promoting people to share their science ideas at our conferences.

Statement (100 words or less):
WSTA is an integral link for improving science education in our state.  Educators at all levels are investing remarkable time and energy into developing the art and practice of science education.  WSTA provides an umbrella organization uniquely positioned for sharing and promoting those best practices.  My goal as the Region 9 Representative is to be part of a team that will bring an exceptional conference to our teachers in 2011, as well as to continue to be a team player in promoting quality science education.

Statement (100 words or less): I am interested in being a board member for WSTA because I enjoy collaborating with other science teachers.  I have been a member of NSTA for 15 years and have attended many regional and national conferences.  I teach high school science and have a background as a field biologist.  I will bring my ability to organize conferences and engaging sessions as well as opportunities to collaborate with scientists.
