Integrating K-8 Education with Environmental/Sustainability Issues Curriculum Development Project, Summer 2010
We are looking for highly motivated K-8 teachers to create a novel approach to teaching and learning important environmental and sustainability issues facing the planet. Teachers should have three or more years of experience in public schools and be passionate about building inspiring and effective curricula. Teachers must have a school contract for the 2010-2011 school year.
The ideal candidate would have these skills and experiences
- Experience creating curriculum for K-8 classrooms
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with mentoring student teachers
- Creative writing and art skills are encouraged
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as e-mail and Internet tools
Applicants should be open to the idea of connecting core subjects through topics related to the environment and sustainability. We will build our knowledge as we go along. Experience in science or sustainability are not required. We anticipate a small, highly interactive and creative work group.

Dates: July 5 – July 30, 2010
Days: Monday – Friday
Times: 10AM - 5PM
Compensation:
Participants will be paid $3000 for the completion of the project

Products/Goals:
1) Create useful teaching materials that embed principles about the environment and sustainability for K-8 students
2) Inform the team developing a K-8 pre-service teacher course about the most effective ways to create useful material and learning experiences for K-8 pre-service teachers and students
3) Test the helpfulness of online resources available for students and teachers
4) Leverage teaching subject matter areas around the topics of the environment and sustainability.
